The members of North Carolina/South Carolina AFGE Local 2325 Executive Committee and Editorial staff would like to welcome you to our Local Website and Newsletter (The New Iron Snake). We with great anticipation embark on this opportunity to share the history, mission and function of our union with you. We are a member of the American Federation of Government Employees which is the largest federal employee union representing 700,000 federal and D.C. government workers nationwide and oversees.

We are also affiliated with the AFL-CIO and the AFL-CIO state federations. At the national level, AFGE negotiates agreements with the Agency that directly affect our professional lives and our work environment and professional development. They are also responsible for ensuring that our members are treated fairly and with dignity. The unions negotiates working conditions at the bargaining table and coordinate legislative and political action programs to monitor issues that impact government workers.

As a local, we represent bargaining unit employees in the Agency (USDA/FSIS/FO), more than 380 members strong, who are located in North Carolina (Raleigh District) and South Carolina (Atlanta District). We have negotiated many benefits and fair procedures for our members. We currently are the largest food inspectors’ local in the country. We are proud to say that we are “active, alive, and accountable”. We have achieved much success through the efforts of men and women like you who make up our wonderful local.

We want you to know that as an employee of FSIS you are eligible for Union membership which includes access to a whole host of free and discounted consumer benefits such as home mortgages, low interest credit cards, computer discounts, scholarships and online learning, as well as best buys in travel and entertainment.

You may have questions about the benefits, pay, or working conditions at FSIS and your establishment. Please feel free to contact the local with these questions or any AFGE Executive Committee Leader. The local representatives listed under the contact heading on our home page have the knowledge and training to assist you in any of your workplace concerns.

Our local meets quarterly to discuss matters of interest to Agency employees. We also ask that you join us and bring your concerns and ideas.

As members of one of the greatest locals in the world, we care deeply about our members, the Agency, and its mission.
